Confessions of a Late-Blooming History Buff
Ever feel like you’re the only one at the party who’d rather talk about America’s First Ladies or the quirks of early presidents?
Finding fellow history lovers “in the wild” isn’t easy — but that’s why History in Two Voices exists. We’re building a space where curiosity, kindness, and storytelling connect people from all walks of life.
Here’s a little confession: I wasn’t always “into” history myself. It all began when I started transcribing the only-a-mother-could-love handwriting of First Lady Julia Gardiner Tyler for Chris’s biography, President Without a Party: The Life of John Tyler . Somewhere between the ink blots, flourishes, and fierce personality in her letters — I was hooked.
That moment taught me something I want to share with every visitor here: You don’t have to be a lifelong history buff to fall in love with the past. You don’t need to remember high school lectures or memorize dates. History comes alive when we meet it through people — their stories, their choices, and their voices.
So whether you’ve been passionate about the past for years or you’re just discovering it now, you’re welcome here. We keep it friendly, curious, and open — because history isn’t just about what happened. It’s about what connects us now.
